Using the Assistant
The Help Assistant is The Library’s in-app help surface. It is designed for product questions and stays available while you continue working elsewhere in the app.
Open the assistant
Section titled “Open the assistant”Use the Help button in the global sidebar. You can also use Cmd/Ctrl + K or the Electron Report a Problem menu item; all three open the same assistant.
The assistant first opens as a compact composer near the top centre of the app. Type a question and press Enter to expand the conversation and send it. In the expanded composer, Shift + Enter can add a new line.
Ask a product question
Section titled “Ask a product question”For a how-to question, the assistant retrieves the relevant documentation article before it answers. Keep the question specific, for example:
- “How do I activate a subscription?”
- “How are local files organised?”
- “How do I reconnect Dropbox?”
It shows a loading state while it is working and displays an in-app error if help or authentication is unavailable. It does not navigate away from your current work or open an email draft as a fallback.
Conversation controls
Section titled “Conversation controls”The expanded assistant can be moved by its header and resized within the visible app window. It keeps recent messages locally for up to two hours, with a maximum of 20 messages.
Each completed message has a copy action below it. Selecting it copies the message’s plain text and briefly confirms success or failure.
