Your First Import

Import is local-first. The desktop app scans files on your computer, routes them through the local inbox, groups them, organises the local tracks/ hierarchy, and then syncs catalog metadata.

  1. Open the import action in the desktop app and choose a local folder.
  2. Review the discovered bounces, stems, and projects. Very large selections may ask you to narrow the folder or file types.
  3. Confirm the import. External imports copy by default; the source is not deleted unless an explicit delete-source option is selected and processing succeeds.
  4. Review any low-confidence or unassigned items in Files.

The app first looks for a same-category candidate with the same case-insensitive name and byte size, then uses SHA-256 to confirm identical contents. Dates do not prove identity.

  • Exact duplicates are skipped and reported separately.
  • Same-name and same-size files with different SHA-256 contents are kept as distinct versions.
  • If a file cannot be read or hashed, duplicate status is not assumed and the source is preserved.

Dropbox is optional for later sharing and delivery. It is not the import authority.
