Sharing Overview

Sharing your music is at the heart of what The Library does. Whether you need to send a work-in-progress to a collaborator, deliver final bounces to a client, or share a playlist with fans, the sharing system gives you flexible options that put you in control.

This guide distinguishes the product surfaces so that a public delivery link is not confused with a collaborator transfer or a published public page.

When you share something from The Library, you create a token-gated web link that recipients can open to preview the selected content. File playback and downloads use the owner’s Dropbox connection and temporary delivery URLs.

Direct and playlist links expose configured selected content through opaque tokens. They can have optional expiry and download permissions. Treat the token as sensitive: a recipient does not need an account with The Library to request valid, unexpired public-share data.

Important: Share links require a connected Dropbox account. All files served through share pages come from your Dropbox storage using temporary, secure links.

Before you can create any share links, make sure you’ve connected Dropbox in your Settings. If the connection expires or Dropbox cannot supply a temporary URL, affected files are omitted from the delivery data until the connection is repaired.

If you see an error about Dropbox when creating a share link, head to Settings and reconnect your account. This is a one-time setup, and your files stay safe in your Dropbox until you’re ready to share them.

The Library offers several sharing methods depending on your goal:

Direct and playlist links deliver selected tracks and files. Playlist links preserve their stored order; download endpoints enforce the selected content and configured file-type permissions.

Share links work great for:

  • Sending work-in-progress to collaborators for feedback
  • Delivering final files to clients
  • Creating a listening page for a specific project

Collaborator sharing is a separate transfer-first workflow. For registered recipients using The Library, acceptance completes the Shares row and starts asynchronous import. Do not use a public link as a substitute for collaborator assignment or completed share access.

Your public page is a published, customizable showcase at your personal public-page URL from The Library. Unlike share links, it is governed by its published state and the public-page visibility rules. You can share the link across social media, your website, or email signatures.

Choose the track groups and files that belong in the delivery, set allowed download file types and optional expiry, then create the opaque token link. Send it only to intended recipients.

The recipient sees only content allowed by that link’s stored selection and permissions.

The product enforces selected-file allowlists and configured permissions for bounces, stems, and project files. The page exposes only the content permitted by the stored share configuration.

Direct links record access and download counters. Playlist links record access/download totals and per-track download metadata. Expiration prevents further successful access; create a new delivery when a new selected-content package is needed.

Share link won’t create Check that Dropbox is connected in Settings. Without a valid Dropbox connection, share links cannot be generated.

Download button is greyed out The share link’s permissions don’t include downloads, or the share has expired. Check the share settings and update permissions if needed.

Files not showing on share page Make sure your files are uploaded to Dropbox and the file paths in your track settings point to the correct locations. If files live outside the local folder structure used by The Library, they may not appear automatically.
