Comments on Shared Tracks
When you’re working on a shared track with collaborators, leaving feedback is essential for productive collaboration. Comments let you communicate specific notes, ask questions, and track revision requests — all without leaving the app.
This guide covers commenting on shared tracks in The Library, including who can comment and the recorded file context available for a comment.
Who Can Comment on Shared Tracks
Section titled “Who Can Comment on Shared Tracks”People can comment only when the current access check grants them access to the shared track group. Supported scopes include:
- Track owner — you created the track, so you have full commenting rights
- Completed direct share or completed bucket-share scope — you have current collaborator access through the relevant completed path
The system checks this scope when comments are read or created. If your access is removed, you cannot add comments through that shared access path.
How Comments Stay Connected to Your Files
Section titled “How Comments Stay Connected to Your Files”Each comment has a required track-group anchor. It may also store file-specific context when that context is available:
- Track ID — a direct reference to a specific bounce
- File identity details — file-system identifier, Dropbox file ID, or path
- Timecode context — an optional point or range
These fields are recorded comment context. They do not promise automatic file recovery or relinking after a file is renamed, moved, or deleted.
Viewing Comments on Shared Tracks
Section titled “Viewing Comments on Shared Tracks”When you open a shared track in the app, any existing comments appear in the activity panel. You’ll see:
- The comment text and who wrote it
- A timestamp showing when it was posted
- Any linked todos or pinned status
- Timecode markers if the comment was attached to a specific moment
Comments are sorted with the newest first, so recent feedback is always easy to find.
Leaving Comments on Shared Tracks
Section titled “Leaving Comments on Shared Tracks”To add a comment to a shared track:
- Select the track from your project grid
- Open the activity panel (it appears on the right side of the screen)
- Find the comments section and click Add Comment
- Type your feedback in the text field
- Click Post to save your comment
After the comment is saved, the current view can show it in the comment list. Other collaborators can see it only while their own scoped access remains valid.
Commenting on Specific Moments
Section titled “Commenting on Specific Moments”If you want to reference a particular part of the track, you can add a timecode to your comment. This is especially helpful when discussing:
- A specific mix adjustment (e.g., “the bass is too loud at 1:23”)
- A vocal timing issue
- A particular instrument that needs attention
- The start and end of a section you want revised
Timecodes are optional comment context; they identify the moment being discussed without changing the comment’s required track-group anchor.
Pinned Comments for Important Feedback
Section titled “Pinned Comments for Important Feedback”Only a collaborator whose row for the track group has master_split > 0 can pin or unpin an important comment. Pinned comments render before unpinned comments.
Use pinning for:
- Major revision requests that need to be addressed
- Approved sections that shouldn’t be changed
- Blocking issues that halt production until resolved
Collaborators without that master_split > 0 row can view pinned comments but cannot modify their status.
Editing and Deleting Your Comments
Section titled “Editing and Deleting Your Comments”You can edit or delete any comment you’ve written. To make changes:
- Edit — click the comment menu (three dots) and select Edit, then save your changes
- Delete — click the comment menu and select Delete (this removes the comment permanently)
You cannot edit or delete comments written by others. If you see something that needs correction, you can reply with a new comment addressing the issue.
Comments and the Share Page
Section titled “Comments and the Share Page”Public share comments are separate from collaborator access. They require a valid, unexpired public token, enabled comments, non-empty content, and a non-negative timecode. Do not use a public share link as a way to grant ongoing collaborator access.
