Preview & Publish

When you’ve finished setting up your public page in The Library, use the Preview & Publish flow to inspect its render-only draft state, then publish it when the required page and profile data are ready.

Think of this step as your final quality check — a chance to catch anything that needs adjusting before your portfolio is visible to the world.

For an unpublished page, preview opens a signed, time-limited owner-authorized render-only URL. For an already published page, the Settings action opens the live published URL without a preview token.

Use a draft preview to check rendered profile data, page-specific settings, selected bucket sections, and the public visibility cap before publishing. It is not an interactive visitor test.

When you’re in the Settings > Public Page section, you’ll find a prominent Preview Page button near the top of the page. Click it to open your preview in a new browser tab.

Before publishing, walk through your page as a visitor would:

  • Banner and branding — Does the banner image display correctly? Is the accent color visible and consistent?
  • Profile information — Is your artist name, bio, and profile picture accurate?
  • Bucket sections — Do the right projects appear? Are they in the order you want?
  • Track display — Are titles, artwork, and section modes rendered as expected?
  • Visitor-action state — Does the draft carry its visible preview marker and disabled visitor controls?
  • Social links — Do your Instagram, Twitter, SoundCloud, or other links work correctly?

Take your time here. You can unpublish later, but public availability should be a deliberate decision.

Once your preview looks exactly right, publishing takes just one click:

  1. Navigate to Settings > Public Page
  2. Click Publish Page at the bottom of the panel
  3. Confirm the action when prompted

After a successful publish, your page is available at thelibrary.fm/pages/your-display-name/.

Your account must meet a few requirements before you can publish:

  • Dropbox connected — Your public page streams audio directly from Dropbox, so a connected Dropbox account is required
  • Display name set — You need a unique URL slug for your page
  • Profile name added — Your artist or producer name must be set in Settings > Profile

If any requirement isn’t met, the Publish button shows a message explaining what’s missing. Clicking the button does nothing until all requirements are satisfied.

If you need to take your page offline, click Unpublish Page in the same location where you found Publish. Your page becomes inaccessible immediately, but your settings and content are preserved. You can republish at any time without re-entering information.

Unpublishing is useful when you’re between projects, taking a break from public work, or want to make significant changes before going live again.

The public renderer uses the configured bucket sections and profile/page settings. It applies a 10-track total cap across all selected sections, so confirm the visible result after a content change.

However, if you want to reorder sections, change display modes, or swap out featured buckets, you’ll do that in Settings > Public Page and then preview to confirm the changes look right.

Your public page doesn’t require unpublishing to edit most content. Here’s how different changes work:

Change TypeWhere to EditAppears On Public Page
Name, bio, avatarSettings > ProfileCheck in owner preview
Social linksSettings > Social MediaCheck in owner preview
Banner, accent colorSettings > Public PageAfter saving, check in owner preview
Featured bucketsSettings > Public PageAfter saving, check the 10-track visible cap
Track additionsProjects pageCheck the rendered public result
Collaborator selectionSettings > Public PageCheck in owner preview

For structural changes — reordering sections, changing grid to cards view, or modifying which buckets appear — you can make those edits in Settings > Public Page and save. The public page updates when you refresh.

For quick fixes to profile information, editing directly in Settings is faster than going through the Public Page settings.

Review the rendered draft — check saved profile/page data, section order, and the visible-track cap before publishing.

Treat a draft preview as render-only — playback, checkout, contact, and other visitor actions are disabled by contract in preview mode.

Keep Dropbox connected — a valid Dropbox connection is required before publishing and for visitor audio delivery.

Use incognito for a fresh view — Your own browser might cache parts of your page. Opening the preview in an incognito or private window gives you an accurate view of what first-time visitors see.
